I am a Professor in the Department of Psychology and a member of the Brain and Mind Institute at Western University. I completed my undergraduate and Master’s degree in psychology at the Universität Bielefeld, Germany, and doctorate degree in psychology and neuroscience at the University of Toronto. Subsequently, I received several years of post-doctoral training at the Rotman Research Institute in Toronto, and at the Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University. In Montreal, I worked under the mentorship of renowned scientist Dr. Brenda Milner, whose pioneering neuropsychological research laid the foundation in many domains of cognitive neuroscience. I became a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Western University in 2000. I am the Director of the Memory Lab in Cognitive Neuroscience at the Brain and Mind Institute at Western. In addition, I am a member of Western’s Rotman Institute of Philosophy. I also hold an Associate Scientist position at the Rotman Research Institute of Baycrest Centre in Toronto.

My research addresses the cognitive and neural mechanisms of human memory, and the interface between memory and perception in the human mind and brain. My research program also aims to improve our understanding of memory impairments that are caused by neurological disease, including Alzheimer’s disease and epilepsy. This research has been funded by operating grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), as well as by several private foundations (Savoy Foundation, Alzheimer Foundation London and Middlesex).

Past and present collaborations involve colleagues at London Health Sciences Centre, the Douglas Institute of McGill University, Baycrest Centre in Toronto, Sick Kids Hospital Toronto, York University, Virginia Tech, University of California Davis, the Université de Toulouse in France, and other universities.
